    Steel Drum Camps



    The steel drum program at Bethel College is one of only two programs in Kansas. Brad Shores is one of the leading composers and steel drum clinicians.

    What to Expect

    Middle school camp:

    Students will arrive at Memorial Hall on the campus of Bethel College on June 7 at 9:30 a.m. for registration. The rehearsal times are 10 a.m. - noon on June 7-9. Camp will conclude with a concert on June 9 at Memorial Hall at noon.

    High school camp:

    Students will arrive at Memorial Hall on the campus of Bethel College on June 2 at 8:30 a.m. for registration. The rehearsal times are 9 a.m. - noon, June 2-4. Camp will conclude with a concert on June 4 at Memorial Hall at noon.

    The rehearsal will involve group practice on the steel drums to prepare songs for the concert. History of the steel drums, as well as cultural issues, will be covered.

    Eligibility

    Middle school camp:

    This camp is open to students who have finished 5th - 7th grade in 2021. No experience is necessary and the instruments are provided.

    High school camp:

    This camp is open to students who have finished 8th grade through students who have graduated high school in 2021. No experience is necessary and the instruments are provided.

    Registration

    Middle school camp:

    Registration must be received by June 6, 2021. The camp is limited to 17 students.

    High school camp:

    Registration must be received by June 1, 2021. The camp is limited to 16 students. 

    Costs

    The camp is $49 and is due by:

    Middle school camp — June 6, 2021
    High school camp — June 1, 2021
